Илтгэлийн хураангуй: School social workers help school children
in a variety of ways including addressing the needs of children who are called
as “left behind children” or children who live separately from their parents
and caretakers due to migration and other social problems. In this presentation
the authors discuss about results of their study of vulnerability of children
who live away from home for period of school year and beyond. Child protection,
migration, and poverty related social, structural, and legal situations are
examined to identify societal, familial, and personal factors. The analysis of cases of “left behind”
children from a suburban school of Ulaanbaatar city demonstrate the need for
school social workers to be aware of problems the children and their families
face. The authors suggest planned
interventions towards building resilience in those children are important for
school social workers to help children and families to overcome vulnerability
and adversity among these children.
