Илтгэлийн хураангуй:
Mongolian state policy on religion for
the period of 1924-1938
and its implications is one of the key issues in Mongolian
history that is to be studied thoroughly
and interpreted objectively based upon true evidences and historical facts.
There are several reasons that support and justify the importance of revisiting
this period in country’s history. Religious beliefs that had been worshipped
for hundreds of years by
any nation cannot be eliminated within a such short period of time just by
orders and directives of a few people. If we look at the history of the
socialist countries, Mongolia possess a unique position of the only country
within the eastern block that developed and executed such cruel and violent
anti-religious campaign against own people. Interestingly once it was treated
positively as a unique, so-called ”Mongolian experience”. Studying the state policy of the
Mongolian People’s Republic of the period of 1924-1938 is of practical importance in a way
that the historical lessons learned will contribute to find adequate solutions
of religious issues that might arise in future. The intended research will
cover the period of 1924-1938. The starting point is years when important state
policy documents oriented towards limitations of religion have been adopted, and the finishing point is 1938 as
the time when most of the monasteries and lamaseries were destroyed and monks
and religious leaders were repressed. One of the darkest periods in the
history of Mongols that started in 1920s and reached its peak during the period
of 1937-1939 was anti-religious campaign and numerous repressions of monks and
religious leaders. In overall, the XX Century history of
Mongolia could be seen as the period of political repression against religion
that covered the whole country by the directives of Komintern and Bolshevik
party. Most of monasteries, lamaseries and monks have suffered under this
authoritarian, totalitarian system and this led to their complete
disappearance.  Илтгэлийн төрөл: Гадаадад зохион байгуулагдсан олон улсын ЭШХ
