Илтгэлийн хураангуй: Without comprehension, reading is simply following words on a page from left to right while sounding them out. If the struggling readers in a classroom routinely miss the point when "reading" content text, consider teaching them one or more of the seven cognitive strategies of highly effective readers. Cognitive strategies are the mental processes used by skilled readers to extract and construct meaning from text and to create knowledge structures in long-term memory. When these strategies are directly taught to and modeled for struggling readers, their comprehension and retention improve. The presenter will introduce research findings observed during the practice of using seven cognitive strategies for the 10th grade students of the Secondary School of MNUE during 5 weeks. The session provides participants with definitions of seven cognitive strategies and useful instructions how EFL teachers use these strategies in the classroom and how they make their lesson plans for these effective strategies by showing them lesson templates for teaching cognitive strategies and leading them to do some workshops.
