The paper intends to describe
the experiential and ethnographical approaches to Sustainability Literacy based
on the powerful role that language plays in forming social structures, as well
as on the consequent impact of those structures on the sustainability of the
society. These approaches have already been put into practice in the Intercultural Studies course taught at
Mongolian State University of Education. These approaches to Sustainability
Literacy based on critical awareness of discursive construction are extremely
important to help students understand the ways that society is structured
(reading the society) and contribute to the transformations necessary for
society to become more sustainable (writing society).
