Background and Methodology

1.      April 2013, 2012: Research conceived by UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Teacher Education to Address Sustainability at York University (Toronto, Canada), in collaboration with the  Working Committee on ESD of the Chinese National Commission to UNESCO.

2.      Researchers in eighteen countries participated:

·         Primarily high-scoring PISA countries

·         Australia, Belgium, Canada (Manitoba), China, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Japan, Latvia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Peru, Scotland, Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States.

3.      Researchers were asked to investigate schools in their countries that had addressed ESD over a number of years.
