Өгүүллийн хураангуй: The government of Mongolia is paying great attention to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related issues in education such as its use in teaching, its integration in education contents and teaching methodology as well as the support for learners’ learning activities.
In the light of this issue, not only general knowledge or skills of teachers, specifically teachers in pre-service training but also appropriate knowledge or techniques of ICT application in education play an important role. This study aims to explore undergraduates’ general basic knowledge, skills of ICT and their knowledge and skills of ICT application in their teaching.
A questionnaire with 70 questions based on the evaluation questionnaire on implementation of the “ICT Competency Standards for Teachers” (ICT-CST) developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was administered and 300 valid samples from fourth year students majoring in teaching at the Mongolian State University of Education (MSUE) were analyzed.
The research findings and results show the comparison of future teachers’ ICT knowledge and skills with the knowledge and skills defined in the document mentioned above. It also helps develop recommendations on curriculum contents for teachers.
