Өгүүллийн хураангуй: This paper discusses the results of
Test of English for International Communication
(TOEIC) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Junior Standard of
English language learners in Mongolia and makes recommendations to improve teaching
and assessing listening comprehension of English language learners in the
country in 2016. Based on our
observation and experience of English teaching practices in secondary schools,
teaching listening has always been overlooked by speaking. In fact, both listening
and speaking are components of oral proficiency. These test takers are divided
into three groups such as employees, undergraduates applying for international scholarships as
well as secondary school students. TOEIC results show that business sector employees outperformed government employees.
Thus there is an urgent need to pay special attention to improve teaching
listening skills and its assessment in the country as it is an inseparable part
of any international English proficiency examinations in the changing world of
education.
