Social Work Education in Mongolia:Uncovering Student and Faculty Perceptions about Competency

After years of collaboration, faculty
members at a social work department in a university in Mongolia and a Western
public university in the United States decided to create a more comprehensive
understanding about curriculum needs for undergraduate Mongolian social work
students. This article presents findings
from a mixed methods program evaluation of the curriculum of a Mongolian undergraduate
social work department. A survey with undergraduate
students and focus groups with two social work faculty groups were conducted.
The evaluation revealed that students and faculty perceived practicum
development and understanding evidence-based practice as top concerns through
which to enable students and faculty to better connect with community
partners. Recommendations for curriculum
development are provided.
