It aims to explore self-regulation of the first and fourth year students to help them succeed in their academic performance. Questionnaires and unstructured observation were employed to obtain qualitative data from freshmen and seniors of English teaching and foreign language education program. The findings show that these students’ overall mean score was in the bottom quartile.  Thus some effective instructional strategies for encouraging self-regulation in the classroom are recommended to improve learner self-regulation.
