Land use change monitoring is still
an important remote sensing application and research field for it is closely
related to manage natural resources, sustainable development and urban plan. Land
use change is one of the major influencing concurrent
for landscape changes.
This work focus on the change detection of the area of
Ulaanbaatar city in Mongolia, our methodology starts by downloading some Landsat
images from 1990 to 2015, the downloaded images was belonging to Landsat 8 and
5. The next step was to do radiometric correction and atmospheric correction to
enhance the images characteristics. After that, the desired region was
extracted by mask clipping. These regions that was extracted from the available
images have followed in the next step a supervised classification with five
different classes using the maximum likelihood algorithm. And change detection is the
final step of the procedure adopted in this thesis, which was performed to
evaluate changes occurred on NDVI and NDWI and land use maps from 1990 to 2015. The resulted classified images
have been compared two by two using a thematic image change detection process.
This process has generated many statistics about the change of our defined five
classes during different years.
