Abstract:

A positive self-assessment is precondition of successful learning activities for each student.  This study investigated the current situation and benefits of students’ self assessment in the teacher preparing university. The purpose of study is to describe students’ knowledge, attitudes and practices of self assessment This study was based on concepts of the Cognitive Theory. The Cognitive Theory Model describes that behavior is mediated by cognitions; what students know and think affects how they act. The description of Cognitive Theory still needs further clarity. (Bandura А 1986). The researchers used qualitative (content analysis) and quantitative (questionnaire) research methods in this study. A questionnaire consisted of 3 subtopics with 17 questions disseminated among students. Review of some research articles related to students self assessment. A total of 200 students in the teacher preparing university were interviewed through a previously developed questionnaire and the collected data was analyzed accordingly. Level of self assessment knowledge of students was found through the data analysis to be inadequate. In other words, misconceptions and negative attitudes toward issues related with self assessment are existent among the students. The study indicated the current situation and implementation of students’ self assessment in the teacher preparing university. The significance of the study is to identify effective approaches and opportunities for students’ self assessment in the teacher training.
